Annerley is located 6 kilometres south from the city of Brisbane and was named after the township of Annerly in Surry, England. Prior to this Annerley was called Stephens Shire. Much of the suburb commands views of the Brisbane city and in recent times the suburb has improved its image from being somewhat rundown to a more eclectic mix of residences from a large variety of socio-economic backgrounds.
The area of Annerley was used for dairy farming in the mid-1800s. The Junction Hotel was built around 1866 on the corner of Boggo Road and Ipswich Road. A boom in housing in 1920 saw a number of beautiful Queenslander homes built in the old farming areas and the population grew to reflect this development.
Annerley is home to many heritage-listed sites and period homes that contribute aesthetically to the area. Annerley Junction is an area of Annerley where Ipswich Road joins with Annerley Road (formerly known as Boggo Road) and the area hosts a number of events during the year.
