Highly recommend Jetset Plumbing. Excellent service from start to finish. Dan was brilliant to deal with, explained everything as he went along, and always kept me updated. Very thankful his expertise was able to deal with my tricky toilet replacement. Punctual, professional and great workmanship, very satisfied customer. Have used Jetset Plumbing before, they replaced my hot water system last year and that was a great experience as well.
Ben Taylor attended our home to locate an underground water leak which he promptly found and effectively repaired. As part of the leak detection pressure testing process flexible water supply connections to both hand basins were found to be in poor condition were also replaced. All work areas were restored and thoroughly cleaned. Work photos and water leak video were provided to assist with the Council water bill relief request. Would recommend Jetset snd Ben to other prospective clients.
Whilst we find Jetset to be relative expensive, they are responsive when you have urgency; and the job was completed to a very high standard. How To Deal With A Blocked Shower Drain

How To Deal With A Blocked Shower Drain

A blocked shower drain can be quite the inconvenience, but what you might not know is that they can also pose a number of potential health hazards if left unchecked.

FAQs

Blocked drains are typically caused by tree roots, hair, grease, and other debris that accumulates over time. Regular cleaning and using drain guards can help, but persistent blockages may require professional clearing with specialised tools.
Leaking taps usually result from worn-out washers, O-rings, or seals. While DIY kits are available, it’s often easier and more reliable to have a plumber replace the worn parts to prevent further leaks.
This is usually due to a faulty flapper valve that fails to seal the flush valve properly, causing continuous water flow. Replacing the flapper or adjusting the float can resolve the issue.
Low water pressure can be due to leaks, clogged pipes, or a faulty pressure regulator. Sometimes, it’s an issue with the local water supply. A plumber can help diagnose and fix the problem.
Hot water issues could be caused by a failing heating element, a malfunctioning thermostat, or sediment buildup in the tank. Regular maintenance can help prevent these issues.
Immediately turn off the main water supply to prevent flooding. Burst pipes often result from freezing, corrosion, or high water pressure. Contact a plumber to repair the pipe and inspect for further damage.
Leaking pipes often require professional attention, especially if the leak is hidden. Temporary fixes like pipe sealant can help, but a plumber should replace or properly repair the pipe to prevent further damage.
A plunger or plumbing snake can often clear minor clogs. Avoid using harsh chemicals as they can damage pipes. Persistent clogs may indicate a more serious issue, like a blocked sewer line, requiring professional intervention.
Gas leaks are extremely dangerous, posing risks of fire and carbon monoxide poisoning. If you suspect a gas leak, evacuate immediately, turn off the gas supply if possible, and contact emergency services.
Water hammer is caused by sudden changes in water pressure, leading to loud banging noises in pipes. Installing a water hammer arrestor or securing loose pipes can help alleviate the issue.
Slow drains are usually caused by grease, soap, or hair buildup in the pipes. Regular cleaning and using a drain strainer can help prevent this. If the issue persists, a plumber may need to clear the pipes using specialised tools.
Stop using water and call a plumber immediately. Sewer backups are often caused by blockages from tree roots or debris. A plumber can inspect the sewer line and clear the blockage.
Inconsistent temperatures often indicate a faulty thermostat in the hot water system. Adjusting or replacing the thermostat can fix the problem. Persistent issues might mean the water heater needs servicing.
Try relighting it according to the manufacturer’s instructions. If it continues to go out, there might be an issue with the thermocouple or gas supply. It’s best to call a plumber to diagnose and fix the issue.
The cost varies depending on the job. Basic services like fixing a leaking tap might range from $100 to $150, while more extensive repairs, like replacing a hot water system, can cost several hundred to a few thousand dollars. Always get a detailed quote before any work begins.
Noisy pipes can be due to loose fittings, high water pressure, or air trapped in the pipes. Securing loose pipes, adjusting water pressure, or bleeding air from the system can often resolve the noise issues.
Regularly clean out leaves and debris from gutters and downpipes to prevent blockages. Installing gutter guards can also help keep debris out, ensuring proper water flow during heavy rain.
Dripping showerheads are usually caused by worn-out washers or O-rings. Replacing these parts can stop the drip and save water. If the problem persists, it might be a more significant issue within the shower valve, requiring professional repair.
Slow heating may be due to a failing heating element, sediment buildup in the tank, or an undersized water heater. Flushing the tank can help, but if the problem continues, consider replacing the heating element or upgrading the system.
A leaking hot water tank likely indicates a serious issue, like internal corrosion or a faulty pressure relief valve. Turn off the power and water supply to the tank and contact a plumber immediately.
A dripping tap in the bathroom is often caused by worn washers or seals that no longer provide a watertight fit. Replacing these components can typically solve the issue. If the tap is older, consider upgrading to a newer, more efficient model.
A loose bathroom tap can be secured by tightening the mounting nuts underneath the sink. If this doesn’t work, the tap may need to be reinstalled or replaced. A plumber can ensure it’s properly secured and functioning.
Slow drainage in the bathroom sink is often due to hair and soap scum clogging the pipes. Using a drain cleaner or plumbing snake can help clear the blockage. Regular cleaning and using a drain cover can prevent future clogs.
Foul smells from bathroom drains are usually caused by a buildup of organic material in the pipes or a dry P-trap. Regularly flushing the drains with hot water and vinegar or using a drain cleaner can help. Persistent odours may require a plumber to inspect for deeper issues.
A bath that won’t drain properly is often caused by a blockage in the drain. Hair and soap residue are common culprits. A plunger or drain snake can often clear the blockage. If the problem persists, a plumber may need to inspect the pipes.
A wet bathroom floor near the sink or shower could indicate a leak in the plumbing, such as a dripping tap, leaking pipe, or faulty shower seal. It’s important to identify the source quickly to prevent water damage. A plumber can locate and fix the leak.
Mould growth in bathrooms is often due to high humidity and poor ventilation. To prevent it, ensure proper ventilation by using an exhaust fan or opening windows, clean regularly, and fix any leaks promptly. Installing a dehumidifier can also help reduce moisture levels.
A loud noise from the bathroom tap when turned on is usually caused by air trapped in the pipes or a loose washer. Bleeding the air out of the pipes or replacing the washer can resolve the issue. If the noise persists, it’s best to have a plumber inspect it.
Low water pressure in a bathroom tap can result from a clogged aerator, a partially closed shut-off valve, or a more serious issue like pipe corrosion. Cleaning the aerator or checking the shut-off valve can often resolve the problem. If not, a plumber may need to investigate further.
Reducing water usage in the bathroom can be achieved by installing water-saving fixtures like low-flow taps and showerheads, fixing any leaks promptly, taking shorter showers, and turning off the tap while brushing your teeth. These measures not only save water but can also lower your water bills.
