Your water rates are here ...

For most of us, we have received our latest water rates. It can be a scary time if you have received a larger than normal water bill. If this is the case, you could potentially have a water leak. However, no need to worry, there are a few ways to check if you have a water leak.

So how can you tell if you have a water leak?

  • Firstly, ensure no water is being used inside or outside of your house. Turn off all taps, dishwasher, washing machine, lawn sprinkler, etc.

  • Locate your water meter and check the number reading to see if it is moving. If it is - you obviously have a leak somewhere on the property.

  • You can also take a meter reading - then wait 1 or 2 hours and take another meter reading. (Again make sure no water is being used during this time). If the meter has moved - then you have a leak.

Once you have checked your property for leaks on all your plumbing fixtures such as your taps, toilets, showers and your hot water system, if you find your water meter is still moving, then you have a hidden water leak on your property.

If that is the case, keep your eyes peeled for any damp areas inside or outside your property, any water stains on your walls and any green areas on your lawn.

Once you have identified you have a water leak, you will need to call a plumber who specializes in leak detection to pinpoint the leak, then repair the issue for you.
