What Is Pipe Relining?

Damaged drain before and after pipe relining

Pipe relining is a trenchless repair method for damaged drains. A resin-saturated liner is positioned inside the existing pipe and pressed against its internal wall while it cures. Once set, the liner forms a strong new pipe section within the old drain.

The method can avoid extensive digging through gardens, driveways, paths, floors or other finished areas. It is not automatically the right answer for every drain, so we first clean and inspect the pipe to confirm its condition, access, diameter and alignment.

When Is Pipe Relining Suitable?

Relining may be considered when CCTV footage shows localised cracks, holes, leaking joints, tree-root entry or deterioration in a pipe that can still support the liner. It is often valuable where excavation would be disruptive or costly.

A collapsed, severely deformed or incorrectly graded drain may need excavation or replacement instead. Our Ipswich drainage plumbers explain what the camera shows and compare the practical options before recommending a repair.

Pipe relining Traditional replacement
Repairs the pipe internally Removes and replaces the damaged pipe
Usually requires limited access points Requires access along the excavation area
Can preserve landscaping and hard surfaces May require surfaces to be removed and reinstated
Best for structurally suitable drain sections May be required for collapsed or badly graded pipes

Our Six-Step Pipe Relining Process

Every drain is different, but a suitable relining project generally follows these stages.

Cleaning a drain before pipe relining

1. Clean the drain

High-pressure water jetting removes roots, scale and debris so the pipe wall can be inspected and prepared.

CCTV inspection before pipe relining

2. Inspect and measure

A CCTV drain camera records the damage and helps confirm the location, dimensions and suitability for relining.

Positioning a custom pipe liner

3. Prepare and position the liner

A liner is prepared for the required pipe section, saturated with resin and placed across the damaged area.

Inflating the liner inside a damaged drain

4. Form the new pipe

An inflatable bladder presses the resin-filled liner against the existing pipe wall so it takes the correct shape.

Cured liner forming a new pipe section

5. Cure and remove the bladder

The liner remains in position while it cures. The bladder is then deflated and removed, leaving the new internal pipe section.

Final camera inspection of relined pipe

6. Complete a final inspection

A final CCTV inspection checks the finished liner and confirms the repaired drain section is ready for service.

Doug is AAA class service ✅ Needing to have my external Sewer and drain line re-lined 🏡 I found Doug to be transparent and accurate when assessing my job. His customer service was impeccable, at the same time relatable. He was always prompt and kept communication fluent 👍 Fantastic person,I would highly recommend Doug. 😁
Very delayed review, but we had Rhys, Jakob 1, Jacob 2 and Winnie out to do some pipe relining due to tree root damage. They did an amazing job, very happy with the work. Find Jetset to be reliable and trustworthy, and all the crew were great.
Great service. Thanks again
Big thank you to Jetset plumbing for fixing the damaged drain pipe in our property. We had a broken pipe filled with tree roots under the concrete floor slab that caused blockage to our toilet downstair, laundry and kitchen sink, and the method that the Jetset plumbing used, was pipe relining, a more cost effective way of fixing broken pipe than digging and excavating to get the pipe replaced. Apparently there's hole in the pipe somewhere where the tree roots entered and have been growing inside for a while. We booked online after we did some google search and ended up with Jetset plumbing. After the booking, Zane came first the next day to inspect and organised everything and provided us with very detailed information about the cost and the product that they will use to carry out the job. The following day Steve and Nathan came and did more work, initially to carry out the pipe relining, however there's a bit of problem because they were unable to see the exact location of the cracked hole in the pipe, as it's some where along the junction which was very hard to see, but they did most of the cleaning, and removed most of the tree roots that blocks the main pipe which gave us some relief, meaning that we could use the kitchen sink and the toilet in the mean time, but not the laundry because it connects through that junction. Zane came few hours later on the same day to do more cctv drain camera using the string, so it can navigate freely through the junction, he was able to pinpoint the exact location of the cracked hole, as this will help the next team to carry out the job more precisely. Finally we were booked for another team to come and do the relining two days later in the morning by Windom and Josh, and they both did an excellent job. Windom was very polite, knowledgeable and helpful when carrying out the job , and he stayed till the job is completely finished and did a clean up as most of the works took place inside our garage, and after the job was done, Windom gave us the Reline warranty book and took the time to explain about the warranty and the free annual inspection, he even drew a very nice diagram sketch on the booklet to better explain where the reline job took place within the pipe.

Overall, we just want to send our sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone involved ( Zane, Steve, Nathan , Windom and Josh) they're all very professional, and very patient when we asked questions. Zane was super helpful throughout the process from the beginning and really kept us and the teams well informed about the job. This is our first time using Jetset plumbing and now we know which plumber to call if there's another plumbing issue in the future. Also knowing that their reline product has 25 years warranty with free annual inspection, really gives us that reassurance and peace of mind. We consider ourselves to be incredibly lucky to find Jetset plumbing. Highly recommended

Update 14/08/26,

Doug from Jetset plumbing came and fixed the downpipe for us, really happy with the quality of work he has done, he is kind and professional as well. We totally recommend Jetset plumbing for any plumbing related works

Thanks Doug
Tom and Max did a wonderful job replacing the guttering at my house, repairing seized laundry taps, and removing an old insinkerator from my kitchen. I recommend them highly.
A big thank you to all the Jetset staff who worked on my property over the last 4 days. The team led by Rhys replaced my entire stormwater system, installed an undersink hot water system (love this!), fixed leaking taps and then replaced the electrics from the green box to my home. A massive effort by Rhys, Howie, Tom S, Winnie, Tom W, Luke, Kye, Sean, Josh, Liam, Hallsey and anyone i missed. Their professionalism and work ethic was incredible. Thank you for making a difficult process so easy.
Jack & Jacob have done an outstanding job on fixing the drainage around the majority of our house. The drainage issues have been a big concern for us and Jetset were the first people we called. Initially Doug talked us through a very comprehensive plan on how to fix our issues, and Jack & Jacob completed those plans to a great standard. Dealing with Doug, Jack and Jacob throughout the process has always been a pleasure.

Jack and Jacob were always on time and were always happy to stop and have a chat and answer all of our kids questions. We particularly appreciate the care and effort that was put into refurbishing the yard once the job had been completed. We had anticipated this job taking 4-5 days but Jack and Jacob completed it in 3 to a very high standard.

We have used Jetset multiple times now for both big and small jobs and we have never had anything but a great experience.
Excellent job by these two legends, Big T and Tye! They made us feel comfortable and reassured us that the job would be done properly, which was especially appreciated after what turned out to be a nasty main drain pipe/sinkhole.

Thanks to Jetset for the professionalism, perfection and great workmanship. You’ve got a fantastic bunch of guys! 👏😊

Is pipe relining completely excavation-free?

Many projects need little or no excavation along the damaged pipe run, but access points or local excavation may still be necessary. We explain the proposed access before quoting the work.

How long does pipe relining take?

Timing depends on cleaning, access, the number and length of repairs, curing requirements and the condition of the drain. The proposed schedule is provided after inspection.

We clean the drain and use a CCTV camera to locate and record cracks, holes, joints, roots, deformation and other faults inside the pipe.
